Classic Guacamole

Good guacamole is one of the most satisfying things you can make, and this classic version proves that simple is always best. The foundation is ripe avocados with fresh lime juice stirred in immediately to preserve that vibrant green color and brighten the flavor. Red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and a hint of cumin round it out into something simultaneously creamy, bright, and a little spicy.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe avocados
- Juice of 2 limes
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
- 1/2 small red onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- Salt to taste
- 1 Roma tomato, seeded and diced (optional)
- Tortilla chips for serving
Instructions
- Cut avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a large bowl
- Add lime juice immediately to prevent browning
- Mash avocado to desired texture — chunky or smooth
- Fold in jalapeño, red onion, garlic, cilantro, and cumin
- Add diced tomato if using
- Season generously with salt
- Taste and adjust lime juice and salt as needed
- Serve immediately with tortilla chips
Notes
Ripe avocados are everything — they should yield to gentle pressure but not feel mushy or stringy. To keep leftovers from browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guac.
