Classic Ground Beef Tacos
No Image
Everyone needs a great weeknight taco recipe, and this is it. Seasoned ground beef with a homemade spice blend — no packets needed — delivers more flavor and less sodium than the store-bought version. A splash of beef broth after the spices go in creates a saucy, clingy coating that makes every bite flavorful. These tacos come together in under 20 minutes from start to finish and are completely customizable for the whole family.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8-12 taco shells (hard or soft)
Toppings
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream
- Salsa or pico de gallo
- Lime wedges
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking apart as it cooks
- Add diced onion and cook 3 minutes until softened
- Add garlic and cook 1 minute
- Drain excess fat
- Add all spices and stir to coat meat evenly
- Pour in beef broth and simmer 3-4 minutes until liquid mostly evaporates
- Season with salt and pepper
- Warm taco shells according to package instructions
- Fill shells with beef and desired toppings
Notes
80/20 ground beef gives the best flavor. Drain off excess fat after browning but leave a little for richness.
